Career and Transition Support

Our Career and Transition Support Programme helps all young people aged 13 - 19 to access a range of career development and transition support programmes and services.

 

CAREER INFORMATION SESSIONS —

COMPACT provides Career Information sessions in a variety of interest areas. Young people are able to speak directly to industry representatives who can provide relevant information about prospective career pathways.

Recent Career Information sessions provided by Compact have been: Army Reserve Day, Visual and Performing Arts Day, Business Services Day, Teaching as a Career Day and a Gap Year information session. Please see our What's News section to see what events are arranged.

 PARENT INFORMATION SESSIONS —

COMPACT holds an information evening for parents and carers of young people to provide current information and career resources. These evenings assist parents to help their young people make career choices and to determine appropriate career pathways.

 



GUEST SPEAKERS —

COMPACT can arrange appropriate guest speakers to address students on a variety of subjects. Past speakers have been: Peter Morrissey (Australian Fashion Designer), Greg Mathew (Winner of Big Brother and Promoter of "Dusty Days" concerts), Liz Weekes (Olympic Gold Medallist) and Mark McCrindle (Psychologist, expert on the different generations, social commentator).

 INDUSTRY SITE VISITS —

COMPACT arranges site visits to local businesses. These highlight employment and career opportunities and provide valuable information about career pathways within each industry.

 EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS WORKSHOPS —

COMPACT can provide Employability Skills Workshops to the young people of Wagga Wagga and the Central Murrumbidgee.

In the workshop, young people participate in self assessment activities designed to assist with resume preparation and gaining employment.

Workshops are provided in a group session and can be arranged by the Careers Adviser of the local high schools. Compact also provide a Mock Job Interview service to all schools and young people. These can be also be arranged by the Careers Adviser of the local high schools.

If you are a young person not currently attending school, and would like to participate in an Employability Skills workshop or a Mock Job Interview, please contact your nearest COMPACT Office direct.

EXPOS —

COMPACT arranges and provides a variety of Expos for the benefit of all young people in the local area.

   

 

TVET EXPO -
This annual Expo is held at TAFE NSW Riverina Institute, Wagga Wagga Campus. This Expo provides information sessions about each of the TVET courses available to students at the TAFE Wagga Wagga campus.

 

 

PATHWAYS TO EMPLOYMENT EXPO -
This annual Expo is provided by COMPACT in partnership with the local Rotary clubs. It is aimed at providing local young people with information and skills to prepare them for the world of work. This expo is divided into three main sections:The first section is an employability skills workshop, the second section is a marketplace involving local Apprenticeship and Traineeship providers, Centrelink and further education providers, and the third section gives the students the opportunity to participate in a mock job interview.

 

 

 • NATIONAL CAREERS & EMPLOYMENT EXPO - RIVERINA
This Expo showcases a wide variety of local and national employment options by providing employers with the opportunity to showcase their industry to the local young people of Wagga Wagga and the Central Murrumbidgee areas. This Expo gives young people the chance to explore a variety of different careers that they may not have considered.

 CSU HEALTH EXPO -
COMPACT in partnership with Charles Sturt University 'Warriahs' hold a Health Expo annually at the Charles Sturt University campus at Wagga Wagga. Rural students are given the opportunity to investigate a variety of health career areas by speaking to current students and lecturers from the different fields.


COMMUNITY SERVICE

COMPACT encourages and arranges local students to be involved with organisations such as Meals on Wheels. Students gain a variety of skills by assisting kitchen staff in the preparation of meals.
